- A very common, tufted perennial grass (loose-dense tufts)
- Soft hairy plant, easily distinguished by its greyish-green colour and broader leaves
- Normally considered as a weed, especially in lawns
- Does have some value for meadows and grazing though (especially on poorer soils)
- Found naturally in the UK, in old pastures, meadows, grassland, wasteland, woodland etc
- Grows on the majority of soils, sandy soils to loams, dry and wet soils etc
- Also known as Tufted Soft Grass, Meadow Soft Grass or Velvet Grass
- Flowers May-August
- 20-100 cm in height
